Works & Process opens applications for fall 2026 dance residencies

Works & Process, the non-profit organization supporting choreographers and dance companies, is accepting applications for week-long out-of-town residencies for NYC-based artists. Applications are open now and will be accepted through Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 5 p.m. Eastern, or until the submission limit of 300 is reached.

Each residency, designed for companies of eight or fewer artists, offers $175 per day, on-site housing, 24/7 studio access, a travel stipend, and health insurance enrollment access. Residencies will take place between October 2026 and May 2027 and can be used to start new projects or continue work in progress.

“Having the dancers live together in the house provided a wonderfully collaborative environment and allowed them to build deeper connections with one another outside the studio,” said Kotoe Kojima-Noa, Artistic Coordinator at NJ Ballet, reflecting on a previous residency.

Since 2025, Works & Process has selected residencies through an open call, producing more than 25 creative residencies annually across five states. To date, the program has supported over 700 artists and incubated works recognized with Bessie Awards and National Dance Project grants.

Past participants have praised the immersive experience. Sun Kim, director of Sun Kim Dance Theatre, said, “I LOVED having the whole day, from morning to night, to think and work in different modes,” while Miro Magliore of New Chamber Ballet described the residency as “a week in paradise.”

Up to 15 residencies will be awarded, with all applicants notified by June 30, 2026. Information on eligibility and applications is available at www.worksandprocess.org/residencies.
