Works & Process at the Guggenheim Museum will present the Uptown Rhythm Dance Festival on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 7 p.m., featuring performances by Kukai Dantza and Xianix Barrera, followed by the Rotunda Dance Party with SCUFF Queer Country Dancing. Tickets start at $25.
Kukai Dantza, founded in 2001 in the Basque Country by choreographer Jon Maya, will perform Nire Txokotik, a piece reflecting Maya’s roots in traditional Basque dance and his collaborative research with other creators.
Xianix Barrera, a Bessie Award–nominated flamenco dancer and choreographer, will present excerpts from Quebrada, a work exploring resilience, identity, and transformation through flamenco. Both performances will be followed by a moderated discussion on the artists’ creative processes.
The evening concludes with SCUFF leading a beginner-friendly queer country line dance in the museum’s rotunda, emphasizing self-expression and inclusivity.
The festival is co-presented with 92NY and Dormeshia’s Ladies in the Shoe Tap Conference and supported through Guggenheim Member Mondays. Kukai Dantza’s participation is in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute and Guggenheim Bilbao.
