WHITE WAVE Dance has announced the 25th anniversary season of the DUMBO Dance Festival, a three-day event featuring 35 contemporary dance companies from around the world.
The festival is scheduled for June 26-28 at the Taylor Dance East Theater in Manhattan. The event will showcase more than 200 performing artists presenting solo, chamber and full-scale works from the United States, China, Hungary, Korea and the United Kingdom.
“The DUMBO Dance Festival provides a platform for over 200 performing artists to showcase their work while offering New York audiences access to an extraordinary range of excellent and visionary choreography at an affordable price,” said Young Soon Kim, artistic director of WHITE WAVE Dance.
The festival begins June 26 at 6:30 p.m. with a Gala Opening Night honoring Nicky Paraiso, director of programming for The Club at La MaMa, and Eunsil Kim of the Grace Charity Foundation Inc. The gala performance will feature Carolyn Dorfman Dance, Yoshiko Chuma and the School of Hard Knocks, Buglisi Dance Theatre, Jennifer Muller/The Works and WHITE WAVE Dance.
Participating companies throughout the weekend include Mollet Contemporary Ballet, BK Dance Project, Kim Namjin Physical Theater, Li Chiao-Ping Dance and Company | E, among others. The event concludes June 28 with a Grand Finale performance at 6 p.m.
Founded by Young Soon Kim, WHITE WAVE Dance has performed internationally at venues including the National Theater of Seoul and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. The company received the 2023 Bessies Angel Honoree Award and a Jerome Robbins Foundation grant for its work “Eternal NOW.”
Tickets for the festival are $30 in advance and $35 at the door, with discounts available for students and seniors. Gala tickets start at $100. Additional information and the full performance schedule are available at whitewavedance.org.
