Comedian and writer Liz Coin will bring her solo show, “Lizzy Sunshine,” to the SoHo Playhouse for a limited run from May 6–16, 2026. The production arrives in New York during Mental Health Awareness Month following a series of sold-out performances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The interactive comedy explores the experience of loving someone struggling with addiction and the emotional coping mechanisms that follow. Blending clowning and character comedy, the show follows the relentlessly optimistic Lizzy as she attempts to keep her performance intact after her onstage partner fails to appear, eventually turning to the audience to help carry the show forward.
“Being the little sister of addiction turned me into Lizzy Sunshine—a clown, a cheerleader, a hope-filled hype woman,” Coin said. “Loving someone with addiction feels like being cast in a show you didn’t audition for.”
The production examines “toxic positivity” as both a survival strategy and a comedic device. Its return to New York precedes a planned return to the United Kingdom and a screen adaptation currently in development.
Coin is a graduate of Northwestern University and an alum of The Second City. Her television and digital credits include appearances on NBC, Prime Video, and Tubi.
Performances are scheduled for Wednesday through Saturday at 7:00 p.m., with a 5:00 p.m. performance on Sunday, May 10. The SoHo Playhouse is located at 15 Vandam St.
