The Chelsea Music Festival has announced its upcoming family event, “Every Storybook Counts,” scheduled for Saturday, June 27, 2026. The gathering will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s German Church, located at 315 W. 22nd St. in New York City.

Admission to the family-friendly event is free, though organizers require an RSVP to attend. The programming includes interactive storytelling paired with music, activities highlighting American composers, and hands-on bookmaking sessions. Adults attending the event must be accompanied by a child.

The event will also feature an exhibition by visual artist Paul Collins, showcasing selected books from his Unbannable Library project. Collins is a Nashville-based artist, teacher at Austin Peay State University, and Yale University MFA graduate. His project utilizes teams of artists, writers, teachers, librarians, and students to build larger-than-life interactive book sculptures based on banned books and original written works.

The Unbannable Library serves as a community effort to address library censorship and intimidation. The sculptures are designed for display and use at libraries, employing text and image to highlight voices subject to censorship. The exhibition previously spanned a dozen sites across Middle Tennessee, New York, and Kentucky during 2024 and 2025, and continues to expand in 2026.

Since 2010, the Chelsea Music Festival has hosted concerts, lectures, exhibitions, family events, and free outreach performances in non-traditional concert spaces. The festival focuses on collaborations across performing, culinary, and visual arts, with a specific emphasis on commissioning works by composers outside the traditional Western canon.
