Queer Butoh Festival returns to Brooklyn for 10th anniversary season

The New York Butoh Institute and Vangeline Theater have announced the schedule for the 2026 Queer Butoh Festival. The event runs from June 24 through June 27, 2026, with performances beginning at 8:00 p.m. nightly.

The festival takes place at The Brick Theater, located at 579 Metropolitan Ave. in Brooklyn. Tickets for the four-day event start at $25.

Marking its 10th year, the festival features interdisciplinary performances exploring the contemporary landscape of Butoh. The lineup includes a mix of local New York performers and international artists representing Mexico, Belgium, South Korea, Singapore, and Chile. Through dance, ritual, and sound, the festival centers LGBTQ+ voices and cross-cultural exchange within the art form.

Several artists are scheduled to perform across all four nights of the festival. Audiences can see work by Fana Muñoz and Moisés Regla of Mexico, Camille Raséra of Belgium, Miu Kim of South Korea, and Dani Cole of New York City.

The remaining schedule features single-night and multi-night performances by additional artists. Milo Longenecker is scheduled for June 24 and 25. Zo Roze appears on June 24 and 27. Oscar Suh-Rodriguez performs on June 25 and 26, followed by Eric Lichtenstein on June 26 and Robyn Wong Min Xuan on June 27.

Vangeline serves as the artistic director of Vangeline Theater and the New York Butoh Institute. Based in New York, she is a teacher, choreographer, and dancer specializing in Japanese Butoh. Her work includes an all-female dance company, the Dream a Dream Project in New York State correctional facilities, and the publication of her book, Butoh: Cradling Empty Space.

The festival venue, The Brick Theater, is a not-for-profit experimental space founded in 2002 in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The organization hosts 250 to 300 live performances annually across its two spaces, The Brick and Brick Aux, focusing on boundary-pushing performing arts with low-cost and sliding-scale admission prices.
