A new comedic romantic comedy adaptation of Dracula is coming to Brooklyn for a single afternoon staged reading. The production is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event will be hosted at The Rat, a creative storefront venue located at 68 Jay Street, Suite 117, in DUMBO.
The reimagined story begins at a chaotic Transylvania train station where an optimistic English solicitor named Jonathan Harker ignores local warnings. He is subsequently held hostage by Count Dracula, who demands Harker teach him modern English lingo so he can blend into London high society. The count lives with vampire roommates named Edwina and Broomhilda, as well as a hypnotized human named Keith who manages the household scheduling.
The narrative shifts to London during a high-society debut gala where Dracula attempts to steal Harker’s fiancé, Mina. Dracula finds himself competing for attention against Lucy Westenra’s three distinct suitors, who include a gentleman, an asylum director, and an American cowboy. This segment of the play features a dance number and a supernatural neck-bite.
The second act follows Professor Van Helsing as he coordinates comedic blood transfusions for Lucy after she develops a symptom described as itchy teeth. The plot then turns into an international vehicle chase back to Transylvania involving garlic-heavy fortresses and emotional warfare inside an undead tomb. The characters exploit a mythical vampire weakness by using mustard seeds, which forces the vampire to stop and count them before a final castle showdown involving a silver sword and a solitary bee.
The international cast features performers Abdullah Naser, Christian Camilo Diaz, Liz Leimkuhler, Nellie Svensson, Patrick Troy-Brandt, and Sarah Lyddan. Admission for the staged reading is set at $10 with a suggested minimum of two drinks. Ticket availability is limited due to the capacity of the storefront lounge space, and further information regarding ticket distribution will be announced shortly. Click here to purchase tickets.
