The Whitney Museum of American Art will present Roy Lichtenstein: Like New, a major retrospective opening on October 11, 2026. The exhibition gathers more than 130 works spanning from the early 1940s through the 1990s, offering a comprehensive look at the Pop art figure’s career.
The collection highlights Lichtenstein’s examination of image reproduction, perception, and mass media culture through paintings, drawings, collages, prints, sculptures, and film. The featured works demonstrate how the artist translated commercial printing and advertising aesthetics into handmade art forms.

Notable pieces on display include well-known works such as Look Mickey, Girl with Ball, Masterpiece, Drowning Girl, and Little Big Painting. The presentation also reunites all eight works from Lichtenstein’s original 1962 debut at the Leo Castelli Gallery, recreating the original gallery setting.
Additionally, the exhibition incorporates three reconstructed murals, including a 96-foot installation of Greene Street Mural and an outdoor staging of Girl in Window created by artist and co-curator Alex Da Corte. Selected works by Louise Lawler, Richard Pettibone, and Sturtevant are also featured to highlight Lichtenstein’s influence on appropriation and artistic influence.
Roy Lichtenstein: Like New explores how visual images are continually transformed, copied, and circulated across modern culture. The survey remains on view at the museum following its October opening.
