Teatro Grattacielo will present an America 250 double bill featuring the world premiere of Jefferson Lives! and a new production of Giacomo Puccini’s Suor Angelica. Performances are scheduled for November 7 at 4:00 p.m. and November 8 at 3:00 p.m. Both shows will take place at The Sam at The Flea Theater, located at 20 Thomas Street in Manhattan.

Jefferson Lives! marks Teatro Grattacielo’s first commissioned opera and was created in collaboration with the interdisciplinary collective Polyhymnia. The work features music by Joshua Daniel Nichols, a libretto by Stefanos Koroneos, and concept and source material by James Harrigan. Produced as part of the national commemoration of the United States’ 250th anniversary, the production examines the American Revolution as a psychological experience.

The opera traces revolutionary ideas shifting from private thought to public action through the ghostly presence of John Adams and a modern figure. The cast includes Peterson Townsend as The Sleeper and tenor Brian Jeffers. The creative team features conductor Saverio Alfieri, projection designer Camilla Tassi, lighting designer Amara McNeil, and costume designer Angela Huff.

The second half of the program features a new interpretation of Puccini’s Suor Angelica, where the title character is the only living presence in a convent inhabited by ghosts. The two operas are designed to explore freedom from connected perspectives, contrasting the political struggle of Jefferson Lives! with the personal and spiritual costs depicted in Suor Angelica.

The complete double bill runs for approximately two hours and 15 minutes, which includes one 20-minute intermission. Tickets for the performances start at $60. The Flea Theater is wheelchair accessible, and Teatro Grattacielo accommodates specific accessibility requests for attendees. Click here to purchase tickets.
