The Frick Collection is presenting Siena: The Art of Bronze, 1450–1500, the first exhibition dedicated to Siena as a hub of bronze sculpture during the Italian Renaissance. The exhibition features nearly 40 works, including statues, reliefs, candelabra, and medals by sculptors such as Donatello, Vecchietta, and Francesco di Giorgio.

Organized by Frick Associate Curator Giulio Dalvit, the show is displayed across three rooms in the Ronald S. Lauder Exhibition Galleries. The works are organized into thematic sections that examine utilitarian bronze objects, Donatello’s period in Siena, funerary monuments, portrait medals, portable reliefs, and freestanding statues.

The presentation includes international loans from Italian institutions, including the Museo Nazionale del Bargello in Florence and the Museo Civico in Siena, alongside regional institutions such as the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Highlights on view include Donatello’s tomb slab of Bishop Giovanni di Bartolomeo Pecci and Vecchietta’s relief The Resurrection.

The museum is located in Manhattan, with tickets and visiting access managed through The Frick Collection’s standard admissions and public programming schedules. An accompanying 400-page hardcover catalogue published with Paul Holberton Publishing is available through the museum shop for $60.

Siena: The Art of Bronze, 1450–1500 explores the technical methods of Sienese bronze foundries, including the lost-wax casting technique. The exhibition also incorporates technical analysis led by Associate Conservator Victoria Schussler and new archival research regarding the attribution and dating of surviving 15th-century Sienese bronzes.
