Almost Tamed Productions to present ‘Beyond Encounters’ at Teatro Circulo

Almost Tamed Productions will present “Beyond Encounters,” an evening featuring three one-act plays, from June 17-21 at Teatro Circulo in Manhattan.

Directed by Lorca Peress, the production includes Lanford Wilson’s “A Betrothal” alongside two new works: “Bound” by Miriam Kulick and “The Call” by Hannah Benitez. The plays explore themes of identity, memory, and unexpected human connections.

The performance features actors Jacob Harran and Miriam Kulick, with live musical accompaniment on cello and violin by Susan Mitchell.

“This evening is about more than encounters,” Kulick said. “It is about the ways people meet across time, conflict, desire, and identity, and how those meetings can change everything.”

The program includes:

“A Betrothal” by Lanford Wilson: A witty encounter between two competitive flower breeders seeking shelter from a rainstorm.
“Bound” by Miriam Kulick: A historical drama based on a true story from the beginning of the Nazi occupation in Eastern Europe, following a young Jewish couple forced to separate.
“The Call” by Hannah Benitez: A 1920s noir cosmic horror inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Call of Cthulhu,” centered on a private investigator and a sailor trapped in a barricaded pub.

Benitez, whose adaptation reframes Lovecraft’s work through a modern lens, said there is “power, irony and humor in women and people of color today, taking his stories, repurposing and exploiting them.”

Performances are scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Thursday through Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. The production has a runtime of two hours, including a 15-minute intermission, and is recommended for audiences ages 16 and older.
