Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre has announced its new Artist Pathway Series, a set of opportunities for dance artists to develop, present, and advance their work. The programs take place at Amanda Selwyn Dance Studio, a professional dance venue at 412 Broadway in Tribeca. They range from works-in-progress showings to festival performances, co-presentations, and a creative residency.
The 6,000-square-foot studio includes a front studio space, locker rooms, and a main Dance Studio measuring 85 by 24.5 feet. The main space is set up as a black-box theater with a harlequin sprung dance floor, flexible seating for 100, risers, an ETC light board, theatrical lighting, a sound system, video projection, and a cyclorama.
Sketches, a works-in-progress series for emerging artists, will run April 15-17, 2027, with applications due Dec. 18, 2026. Selected choreographers receive four hours of rehearsal, a three-hour performance event, one simple theatrical lighting look, and 50% of ticket sales. The cost to artists is a subsidized flat rental fee of $600.
The sixth Footprints Dance Festival is set for May 6-8, 2027, with applications also due Dec. 18, 2026. Curated by Amanda Selwyn, the festival features emerging and established choreographers in a fully produced concert. Selected artists receive two produced performances, professional photos and video from the dress rehearsal, and the option to take part in master classes. It is free to apply and participate if selected.
Dance Dialogue, a co-presentation series, will take place May 20-22, 2027, with applications due Jan. 4, 2027. Each program pairs two choreographers or companies, who each present 20 to 30 minutes of work in a shared evening. Participants receive six hours of subsidized rehearsal, four hours of technical rehearsal, and one shared performance day in the theater. The fee is $1,000 per company, and the artists share 50% of ticket sales.
Catalyst: Studio Lab Creative Residency will be held in June 2027, with applications due Feb. 1, 2027. The subsidized residency gives artists time and space to research and develop new work without the pressure of a formal performance. Selected choreographers receive up to 10 hours of rehearsal space, flexible scheduling based on studio availability, and the option to host one open-to-the-public rehearsal. The residency fee is $300.
Amanda Selwyn founded Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre in 2000 and, in 27 seasons, has directed more than 130 productions. The company also created Notes in Motion, a dance education program. Its programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
