The American Dance Guild will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a four-day performance festival titled Celebrating the Past, Inspiring the Future. Running from Oct. 22 through Oct. 25, 2026, the event takes place at the Ailey Citigroup Theater, located at 405 West 55th Street in Manhattan.

The festival features more than 30 contemporary dance works representing diverse aesthetic, cultural, and generational perspectives. Guest organizations participating in the intergenerational exchange include Ballet Tech, LaGuardia Performing Arts School Dance Department, the Murray Louis Foundation, and Graham 2.

Each evening pays tribute to influential figures in American dance, starting Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m. with a program honoring choreographer Nai-Ni Chen. Subsequent performances honor Paul Sanasardo on Oct. 23 at 8:00 p.m., Carla Maxwell on Oct. 24 at 8:00 p.m., and pioneering ballerina Janet Collins on Oct. 25 at 7:00 p.m.

The event will also present two major honors during the evening programs. Choreographer, educator, and writer Pat Catterson will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award, while dance historian, critic, and filmmaker Sally Sommer will accept the American Dance Guild Award for Dance Scholarship in Journalism and Dance History.

Founded in 1956 as an early dance service organization, the American Dance Guild supports dancers, choreographers, and educators through performance opportunities, publications, and archival initiatives. General admission tickets for the festival start at $30, with discounts available for students and guild members online or at the theater box office.
