Comic Arts Fest to bring world-renowned graphic novelists to L’Alliance New York

L’Alliance New York will host its second annual Comic Arts Fest from April 24 through April 26, featuring a weekend of masterclasses, screenings, and conversations with some of the most influential figures in global comic arts.

The festival, curated by publisher Rodolphe Lachat, aims to bridge the gap between mainstream superhero mythology and independent graphic storytelling. This year’s lineup includes celebrated artists such as Charles Burns (“Black Hole”), Frank Quitely (“All-Star Superman”), and Felipe Smith (“Ghost Rider”).

“This new edition confirms our ambition to build a space of circulation and dialogue,” Lachat said. “A bridge between mainstream and independent scenes, between Europe and North America.”

The weekend kicks off Friday, April 24, with a rare public appearance by Charles Burns, followed by a screening of the animated horror anthology “Fear(s) of the Dark.” Saturday’s highlights include a masterclass by Quitely on redefining iconic characters like Batman and Superman, and a “Live Illustrated Concert” where artist Benjamin Lacombe will draw scenes from “The Great Gatsby” in real time to a live jazz score.

New for 2026, the festival has partnered with the Society of Illustrators for a special off-site conference featuring French artist Elene Usdin.

Throughout the event, the “Artist Alley & Bookstore” will operate in the Tinker Auditorium, featuring signings and exclusive merchandise from publishers including Fantagraphics and Abrams ComicArts. Family-friendly workshops, such as superhero mask-making, will also be available for younger attendees.

The festival concludes Sunday with a screening of the documentary “Superheroes: A Never-Ending Battle” and a panel discussion featuring director Michael Kantor and writer Laurence Maslon.

Tickets are available at L’Alliance New York, located at 22 East 60th St. Day passes start at $20, with full-festival passes available for $45. For a complete schedule and ticket information, visit the L’Alliance New York website.
