A new musical reimagining of ancient Irish mythology will receive a special presentation this month as part of the Spark Festival.
“If I Could Go,” written by Steve Engelbrecht, will be performed on April 23 at 7 p.m. at the TADA Theatre in Manhattan. The presentation features a cast led by three-time Tony Award nominee Marc Kudisch and “In the Heights” star Andréa Burns.
Directed by Peter Flynn with music direction by Chris Ranney, the musical is inspired by the legend of Tír na nÓg, the “Land of Eternal Youth.” The story follows Oisín, a Dublin bookshop clerk who is drawn into a crumbling mythic realm by a princess named Niamh.
The production features a score that blends contemporary musical theater with traditional Celtic influences, performed by a four-piece band utilizing Irish instruments.
Joining Kudisch and Burns in the principal cast are Jadon Lopez, Kate Fitzgerald, Jade Jones, and Richard B. Watson. The ensemble includes Elissa Bonito, Jack Gemmell, Genesis Harper, Darius Jordan Lee, and Diogo Ramirez.
The Spark Festival presentation serves as an early look at the project’s development. General management for the production is provided by Form Theatricals.
