Sacramento-based rock band Dance Gavin Dance is scheduled to perform at Central Park SummerStage on May 30 as part of an extensive North American headline tour.
The performance in New York City comes as the band prepares for the May 22 digital release of Tree City Sessions 3 via Rise Records. The upcoming live-session album allows the group to revisit and update songs from its back catalog. As a preview, the band has released an updated version of “The Robot With Human Hair, Pt. 3,” a track originally featured on its 2008 self-titled album.
“The entire Tree City Sessions series has given us the opportunity to showcase each lineup’s strengths on various songs throughout the entire catalog,” said vocalist Andrew Wells. “Growing up I was a huge fan of the Deathstar album, so being able to emulate Kurt and bring my own passion to this version of Robot 3 was truly an honor.”
The New York City date is a highlight of a two-month spring run that features special guests The Fall Of Troy, Horse The Band, Wolf & Bear, and Novelists. Following the digital launch and tour-exclusive vinyl variants, a full physical retail release of Tree City Sessions 3 is scheduled for June 19.
Comprised of Wells, Jon Mess, Will Swan, and Matthew Mingus, Dance Gavin Dance has earned four Billboard 200 Top 15 albums by blending styles ranging from funk and metalcore to pop and post-hardcore.
In addition to the live collection, the band is touring in support of its 11th full-length record, Pantheon. The new album, a follow-up to 2022’s Jackpot Juicer, marks a shift back toward the band’s heavier and more experimental beginnings.
