Ensemble Shakespeare Company is bringing a modern-antiquity production of Julius Caesar to the New York City stage this summer. Directed by Dylan Diehl, the full-text production runs from July 9 to July 26, 2026, at The Flea Theater in Tribeca.
The production explores the breakdown of civil discourse and the fragility of democracy by blending the realities of the 21st century AD with the 1st century BC.
The upcoming 12-performance run features a cast of 15, including guest artists Mark Dacascos (John Wick 3, Iron Chef) and Pedro Garza, alongside members of the Ensemble Shakespeare Company. The production aims to eliminate the distance between the audience and the classic text, positioning the viewers as active participants in the play’s core debates on power, morality, and civic responsibility.
The creative team behind the production includes lighting designer Annie Garrett-Larsen, set designer Joshua Warner, costume designer Micaela Hecht, fight director Jacqueline Holloway, associate fight director Melanie Liebetrau, and stage manager Sophia Alaniz. The total runtime is two hours and 30 minutes, which includes a 15-minute intermission.
Performance schedule and ticket information
Performances take place at 20 Thomas Street in Tribeca. The schedule consists of evening shows from Thursday through Saturday, with afternoon matinees on Sundays:
- Thursdays–Saturdays: 7:00 p.m.
- Sundays: 2:00 p.m.
- Opening Night: Friday, July 10, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.
