The 92nd Street Y, New York (92NY) will host the breakout Isidore String Quartet for a performance in Buttenwieser Hall at The Arnhold Center on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 7:30 p.m.
The New York City-based ensemble returns to the 92NY stage following its 2024 debut. The program features the New York premiere of “American Mosaic,” a new work by American composer Billy Childs. The performance also includes Franz Josef Haydn’s String Quartet in B-flat Major, Op. 76, No. 4, “Sunrise,” and Johannes Brahms’ String Quartet No. 3 in B-flat Major, Op. 67.
The Childs commission was organized by Music Accord in partnership with the Shriver Hall Concert Series, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, and 92NY.
Winners of a 2023 Avery Fisher Career Grant and the 2022 Banff International String Quartet Competition, the Isidore String Quartet was formed in 2019 at the Juilliard School. The group’s philosophy is influenced by the Juilliard String Quartet, focusing on “approaching the established as if it were brand new, and the new as if it were firmly established.”
The quartet’s name honors Isidore Cohen, a legendary violinist and former member of the Juilliard Quartet.
The ensemble has appeared on major stages across North America and Europe, including recent performances in Amsterdam, Bonn, and Stuttgart. Its 2025-26 season includes upcoming debuts at the Philharmonie in Paris and Wigmore Hall in London, as well as collaborations with clarinetist Anthony McGill and the Miró Quartet.
Tickets for the event start at $45 for in-person attendance and $25 for the livestream. The 92nd Street Y is located at 1395 Lexington Avenue.
