La Femme Theatre Productions will present the first New York revival of Wendy Wasserstein’s 1997 play An American Daughter this summer.
The upcoming production is scheduled to run from July 23, 2026, through September 6, 2026, on The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center in Manhattan. Opening night is officially set for August 11, 2026. Sarna Lapine will direct the staging, which features an unpublished second act from the late Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright.
Tony Award nominee Montego Glover, Tony Award winner Robert Sean Leonard, and Jean Lichty will lead the ensemble cast. The production roster also includes Dakin Matthews, Mary Beth Peil, Ryan Spahn, Will DeVary, Chris Ghaffari, and Carmen Zilles.
The play focuses on a successful woman positioned for a national public service role until a minor personal oversight triggers a media frenzy. Wasserstein’s script uses comedy and political commentary to explore public scrutiny, sexual politics, and the standard placed on women in public life.
The behind-the-scenes creative team includes scenic designer Mikiko Suzuki MacAdams, costume designer Donna Zakowska, lighting designer Alan C. Edwards, and sound designer Darron L West. Kathy Fabian of Propstar serves as props designer, with Amy Stoller as dramaturg. General management is handled by LDK Productions, and Stephanie Klapper is the casting director.
Performances will take place weekly, Tuesday through Saturday at 7:00 p.m., with matinee showtimes scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. Click here to purchase tickets.
