Rikud Studio announces 2026 summer camp lineup in Brooklyn

Rikud Studio summer camp in Brooklyn New York

Rikud Studio has announced its 2026 summer camp offerings, a nine-week program running from June 15 through August 14.

Located in Prospect Heights at 607 Vanderbilt Avenue, the studio focuses exclusively on street and club dance forms, including breaking, hip-hop, and house. The studio operates on an alternative model that features no mirrors, no ballet, and no recitals.

Camp hours are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with extended day options available from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. for an additional charge. Payment options include three- and six-month plans with a $1,000 deposit, as well as weekly payments with a $350 deposit. A permit for the camp is currently pending with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

The summer camp maintains a small model limited to three pods of six campers per week, with each pod supported by a counselor and a teen assistant. A minimum of eight enrolled campers is required for each camp week to run. Under the studio’s policy, all camp registrations are non-refundable, though tuition credits may be issued for cancellations made 14 or more days before a camp week begins.

The camp curriculum is organized into two developmentally aligned age groups:

  • Ages 5–7 (Play-Based Immersion): Programming includes rhythm stations, mini cyphers, movement games, obstacle courses, graffiti art, name design, and outdoor playground and sprinkler visits.
  • Ages 8–14 (Cultural Lab + Skill Development): Programming focuses on technique training in breaking, house, and hip-hop, alongside choreography labs, freestyle development, groove drills, conditioning, letter structure and tag evolution labs, guest workshops, and crew rehearsals.

The summer camp is a collaboration with HereNow Cultural Space in Bedford-Stuyvesant, featuring neighborhood tours, graffiti arts, hip-hop, breaking, and DJ instruction.

Rikud Studio was founded by Caila Moed, a former Goldman Sachs professional who worked for more than a decade in finance and philanthropy. Moed holds an MBA from the University of Oxford and trained for over 20 years as a professional dancer.

“Most dance studio education in the U.S. still starts with ballet and works towards recitals,” Moed said. “But historically, hundreds of distinct dance traditions emerged from cultures around the world long before ballet became the norm in European courts. Hip-hop, house, and breaking are complete dance forms with their own techniques, histories, and pedagogies.”

All classes at the studio are taught by working professional dancers and choreographers, led by Master Teacher Andrew Carter, who is known as Dr. Ew in the dance community.

In addition to its summer camps, the studio offers 30 weekly year-round classes for children, teens, and adults. These include “Littles” caregiver-and-child classes, “Minimovers” for ages 3 to 5, kids breakdancing and hip-hop, all-level teen and adult hip-hop, yoga, and low- or no-cost adult open sessions. The studio also hosts breaking battles and community events, including an upcoming kids breaking battle with the New York Collective and a family dance party with Saint James Joy.
