Works & Process, the performing arts series known for its programming at the Guggenheim New York, is returning to Manhattan West for its fourth year. The outdoor series, titled Gather Round: Let’s Dance (2026), features live bands, dance lessons, and performances by New York artists.
The free events take place every Wednesday in September from 5:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. on the Manhattan West Plaza, located at 385 9th Avenue in Midtown. Each weekly session focuses on a different genre, including street dance, mambo, contra, and swing.
The series opens on September 9 with LayeRhythm, a group founded by house dance specialist Mai Lê Hô. The performance centers on improvised street and club dance styles like house dance, litefeet, flexN, breaking, and locking, concluding with an open floor for audience participation.
On September 16, Sekou McMiller & Friends host an intergenerational mambo dance party and lesson. The event includes elders from New York’s historic Palladium Ballroom and features live music provided by the Palladium Mambo Band.
Brooklyn Contra presents a barn dance on September 23, offering lessons in the folk dance form alongside live Appalachian and Irish music from the Some Assembly Required Quintet. No dance partner is required, and all steps are taught on site before dancing begins.
The final session on September 30 features New York Swings, led by choreographer Gaby Cook, demonstrating Lindy Hop and authentic jazz dance. Live music for the evening is provided by Josh Lee and the Family, a Philadelphia ensemble led by Grammy-winning saxophonist and Count Basie Orchestra member Josh Lee.
