South Street Seaport Museum will host its monthly “Fresh Prints” open house on April 2 at 6 p.m., inviting visitors to experience hands-on printing at Bowne & Co..

The event, held at 211 Water St., offers participants the opportunity to use a variety of traditional printing equipment and create their own take-home pieces. Admission is $5, and preregistration is encouraged, though walk-ups will be accommodated as space allows. The program is open to ages 12 and older.

During the open house, attendees will observe how designers set and print limited-edition works using historic methods and materials drawn from the museum’s graphic arts collection. The program highlights the legacy of Bowne & Co., one of New York’s oldest printing firms, originally established in 1775.

Today’s Bowne & Co. at the Seaport Museum continues that tradition of small-batch, job printing, offering visitors a hands-on connection to the city’s printing history. Participants will be able to keep the items they produce during the session, which runs approximately 90 minutes.
