Trumpeter and vocalist Jon Lampley is set to perform at the Blue Note on Wednesday, July 1, serving as the closing act for the 15th Annual Jazz Festival. The Brooklyn-based musician will perform two sets to celebrate his forthcoming solo project, “Notes to Self,” which is scheduled for release on June 26.
Lampley, a virtuoso on the trumpet and sousaphone, has spent more than a decade as a core member of the house band for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Previously performing under Jon Batiste and currently with Louis Cato, Lampley’s solo work fuses gospel-rooted soul with jazz and singer-songwriter storytelling. He is also a co-founder of the ensemble Huntertones and frequently performs with groups such as O.A.R. and Lake Street Dive.
The upcoming performances at the legendary jazz club will feature a lineup of special guests, including Clyde and Gracie Lawrence of the band Lawrence, as well as Sammy Rae. The sets are expected to highlight material from Lampley’s new album, following the critical success of his 2024 debut, “Night Service: Live at LunÀtico,” which was noted by NPR for its joyful atmosphere.
The Blue Note is located at 131 W. 3rd St., New York, NY 10012. The first set of the evening is scheduled for 8 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m., followed by a late set at 10:30 p.m. with doors at 10 p.m. Tickets for both performances are available through the venue’s official website.
