The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum will host a special preview of the upcoming Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival on April 27, featuring new works that blend traditional choreography with cutting-edge technology.
The event, part of the “Works & Process” series, is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Peter B. Lewis Theater. It offers a first look at productions developed at the historic 220-acre dance mecca in Becket, Massachusetts, ahead of their summer debuts.
The evening features excerpts from two major projects:
- “Baby Laurence Legacy Project” by Brinae Ali: A celebration of tap dance innovator “Baby” Laurence Donald Jackson. The production uses technology to bring the late innovator into the performance alongside live music from the Baltimore Music Collective. It is the recipient of the 2026 Joan B. Hunter New Work Commission.
- “Elsewhere” by Brian Brooks Moving Company: A world premiere featuring eight dancers tracked by motion-capture and depth cameras. The dancers’ movements generate live video and graphics in real time through custom software.
The program also includes a guest appearance by Miami City Ballet principal dancers Macarena Giménez and Chase Swatosh, performing Brooks’ new work “Can we be Quiet?”
Pamela Tatge, executive and artistic director of Jacob’s Pillow, will moderate a discussion with the choreographers. The event arrives as Tatge celebrates 10 years of leadership at the organization, during which she oversaw the 2025 opening of the new, technologically advanced Doris Duke Theatre.
“This is an opportunity to see works incubated by the Pillow that will culminate in Festival 2026 presentations this summer,” organizers said.
Tickets for the presentation start at $25. Following the performance and discussion, Works & Process will host a reception for attendees in the museum’s rotunda. Click here to purchase tickets.
