The New York Butoh Institute will join more than 10,000 dancers for the 20th annual Dance Parade New York on May 16.

The event, which features over 100 styles of dance, begins with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m. at West 17th Street and Avenue of the Americas. The procession is scheduled to start at noon, moving down Avenue of the Americas toward Tompkins Square Park.

Yazmin Gonzalez choreographed this year’s Butoh performance for the institute. Gonzalez, who debuted at the 2019 New York Butoh Institute Festival, previously directed the Vangeline Theater’s participation in the 2025 parade.

The featured performers include Gonzalez, Genevieve Jencson, Robyn Wong, Eilish Henderson, Celeste Laborde, Eric Lichtenstein, Zo Roze, Suyi Xu, Ana Gimena Sanchez, Alex Shanahan, River Luna, Rute Ventura, Alaisha Sharma, Alana Rosa and Stephanie Larriere.

The New York Butoh Institute is led by artistic director Vangeline, a specialist in the Japanese dance form. Vangeline is a 2026 National Endowment for the Arts Dance Award recipient for her upcoming work, “Unforgotten: Butoh for 9/11.” Her recent collaborations include “MAN WOMAN,” which premiered at the La MaMa Moves Festival in April.

Following the parade, the festivities will continue with Dancefest in Tompkins Square Park. The festival includes performances on five stages and free dance classes provided by local instructors.

Additional information regarding the event is available at danceparade.org.
