New York Botanical Garden unveils summer 2026 programming featuring Flower Power and World Cup displays

The New York Botanical Garden unveiled its summer 2026 programming lineup, introducing a series of exhibitions, cultural events, and seasonal displays across its 250-acre Bronx landscape. The upcoming schedule includes interactive installations, historical retrospectives, and family-focused activations running through the summer months.

The season is anchored by the garden-wide Flower Power exhibition, which runs through October 18, 2026. The programming includes folk music performances curated by the Jalopy Theatre on the Conservatory Lawn, participatory drum circles, friendship bracelet crafting, and wellness sessions such as sound baths and guided breathwork. A curated “Flower Power in Film” series will also screen titles including Woodstock and Hair.

For younger visitors, the Summer of Moomin activation opens in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden through September 13, 2026. Based on the characters created by Finnish artist and author Tove Jansson, the installation features a clue-based quest, nature crafts, and a character photo location.

To coincide with the World Cup arriving in New York, the Home Gardening Center is hosting the World Cup Gardenfrom June 13 through July 19, 2026. The display features a soccer-themed installation showcasing plants from participating countries, foosball matches, and turf-growing tutorials. A Kick-Off Day event on June 13 initiates the programming with hands-on activities and crafts.

Two historically focused exhibitions will also open this season. Growing America, running from July 4 through October 18, 2026, marks America’s 250th anniversary by exploring how plants and agriculture shaped the country. The LuEsther T. Mertz Library will display archival materials covering Revolutionary-era New York, wartime Victory Gardens, and a collaboration with the George W. Bush and Barack Obama presidential libraries focused on White House state dinners and vegetable gardens. Outside, the Barnsley Beds will display food plants tracing agricultural history from Indigenous foodscapes through the Transatlantic Slave Trade and the Great Migration.

The second historical exhibition, Before New York, runs through November 15, 2026, at the Arthur and Janet Ross Gallery. Based on research by NYBG ecologist Dr. Eric W. Sanderson, the display examines the natural features, geography, flora, and fauna of the region as it existed prior to Henry Hudson’s arrival in 1609. The installation utilizes large-scale photographs, digital renderings, and soundscapes to recreate the early coastal landscape.

Weekly food programming continues with the NYBG Farmers Market, operating Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mosholu Entrance through October 21, 2026. Directed by Pascale Le Draoulec, the market features live music and rotating vendors, with Fino Farms and Trinity Farms serving as the two featured anchor farms.

On-site retail and dining venues are also open for the summer season. The NYBG Shop is operating Tuesday through Sunday, featuring plants, garden supplies, and limited-edition product collaborations with Moomin, Bloomist, and Williams-Sonoma’s sustainable brand, GreenRow. Dining options include the daily Pine Tree Café, serving artisanal panini and pizza, and the farm-to-table Hudson Garden Grill, which operates Tuesday through Sunday with seasonally inspired dishes.
