Abingdon Theatre Company honors Michael Urie at 34th anniversary gala

Abingdon Theatre Company has named two-time Emmy Award nominee Michael Urie as one of its 34th Anniversary Gala Honorees. The event will kick off the company’s 34th season, titled Ever Forward, Ever Evolving, on Monday, November 2, 2026, at the Edison Ballroom in New York City.

The gala begins at 6:00 pm and features cocktails, dinner, a mission-based auction, and live performances directed by Chad Austin with music direction by Robbie Cowan. Additional honorees, special guests, and performers will be announced at a later date, and tickets are currently available through the company’s website.

Urie is a three-time Drama Desk Award winner, two-time Lucille Lortel Award winner, and an Obie Award recipient. His stage credits include the Broadway comedy Oh, Mary!, Once Upon a Mattress, Spamalot, and the Off-Broadway production of Buyer & Cellar. His screen work includes three seasons on the Apple TV+ series Shrinking, ABC’s Ugly Betty, and the film Maestro.

Behind the scenes, Urie co-founded Pride Plays to support LGBTQIA+ theatrical voices and has directed both stage productions and films. Producing Artistic Director Chad Austin stated that the company selected Urie because his work embodies determination and transformation on and off the stage.

Founded over 34 years ago, Abingdon Theatre Company develops and produces new American work by emerging and established artists. In addition to its Off-Broadway premiere productions and reading series, the company expanded into film production in 2020 with its Abingdon Virtual initiative.
