The Elie Wiesel Foundation will hold a Chanukah concert called One Light, Many Flames on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. at The Town Hall, 123 W. 43rd St., in Manhattan. The event marks 40 years since Elie Wiesel received the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo on Dec. 10, 1986.
The lineup features The Idan Raichel Project, Ravid Kahalani, Eden Golan and Yuval Raphael. Shaggy and Matisyahu will appear as special guests, and Nuseir Yassin will serve as emcee. The concert celebrates the cultures, histories, and musical traditions of Israel and the Jewish people.
Proceeds will benefit the foundation’s Beit Tzipora Centers in Israel and help expand educational exchanges. The exchanges connect American students who read Night with young Israelis. Last year, New Jersey middle school students were introduced by video to Ethiopian-Israeli students at Beit Tzipora, creating a modern-day pen pal program.
Tickets are limited and go on sale in late October. The foundation is offering early access to people who join its mailing list at eliewieselfoundation.org. The presenting sponsors are the Wiesel Family, the Braman Family Foundation and The Kraft Family Foundation.
“Through the ‘One Light, Many Flames’ concert and our work through Beit Tzipora, we aren’t just preserving my parents’ memory. We are putting it into action,” said Elisha Wiesel, chair of The Elie Wiesel Foundation and Elie Wiesel’s son.
The Beit Tzipora Centers in Ashkelon and Kiryat Malachi have spent more than three decades helping young Ethiopian Israelis build pathways to success in school, military service and beyond. The centers are named for Elie Wiesel’s younger sister, Tzipora, who was murdered in Auschwitz. They serve nearly 600 students each year.
