This September, families are invited to experience the South Street Seaport Museum (12 Fulton St, New York, NY 10038) in a new way through its Family Activity Weekends program, offered free of charge every Saturday and Sunday from September 6 through September 28, 2025, from 11am to 4:30pm.
The program, “My View of the Seaport,” encourages visitors of all ages to see New York’s historic waterfront from a fresh perspective. Inspired by the Museum’s Maritime City exhibition, the activity combines observation, sketching, and creativity to help participants engage with the Seaport district’s architecture, history, and environment.
Families can stop by 207 Water Street to pick up free art supplies—clipboards, folding stools, cardstock, and pencils, crayons, or pastels—before setting out to capture their own view of the neighborhood. Participants may choose to sketch at nearby sites like Little Water Street, Cannon’s Walk, or the Titanic Memorial Lighthouse, or head to other Museum locations such as Pier 16.
Whether drawn to architectural details, historic landmarks, or the natural elements of the waterfront, this activity invites close looking and reflection on how the Seaport has evolved over time. No prior art experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to create.
