The spirit of the Bowery is moving to Brooklyn this September as the CBGB Festival takes over Under the K Bridge Park. Announced earlier this week CBGB & OMFUG, in partnership with The Bowery Presents, the Saturday, Sept. 26 event will transform the industrial space into a celebration of New York’s underground rock history.
The festival features a heavy concentration of local and genre-defining icons, headlined by Patti Smith and Morrissey. The bill also includes New York’s own Interpol and a rare appearance by the Sex Pistols (Jones, Cook, and Matlock) fronted by Frank Carter. To honor the club’s hardcore roots, the lineup features staples such as Agnostic Front, Circle Jerks, and Haywire, alongside a Ramones tribute band, The Return of Jackie and Judy, featuring Fred Armisen.
Organizers selected Under the K Bridge Park for its industrial atmosphere, aiming to replicate the “grit” of the original East Village club. The site will feature immersive installations, including a recreation of founder Hilly Kristal’s office, the original CBGB stage, and the famous bar. Expanded local food and drink options will be available throughout the day-long event.
“For decades, CBGB defined the punk scene and helped shape a generation of music lovers in New York and beyond,” said Phil Sandhaus. Presale tickets go live Thursday, April 23, at 10 a.m. ET for fans who register online, with general sales beginning Friday via AXS.com. The festival serves as a modern tribute to the original 315 Bowery location, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.
